McLuhan’s relevance then extends to other areas of what he was enabled to see by understanding processes in the way that he did. He was able, for example, to arrive at the comment that the business of the world is information. He was able to look around at some of the large companies of his day including IBM, and say “well, they don’t really know what business they’re in. In fact they’re in the information business,” Now what’s interesting is that, to answer Tom Wolfe’s famous question, “But what if he was right?” He does turn out to be very prescient and quite right in many of those kinds of predictions.
